Squash bugs not only cause direct damage to the vines but they can also spread diseases that eventually kill your vines. They have a toxin in their saliva that causes wilting of the entire vine.
Since you have already seen these pests in your vegetable garden, you need to begin a control program now. Alternate a spray of Bonide Eight and then Sevin every 10 days to 2 weeks beginning around June 15th. Be sure to read and follow the label directions. Never spray when the bees are active. It is best to spray in the evening or early in the morning when bees are less active.
ALWAYS rotate your crops in the garden. This goes a long way towards reducing pest and disease problems in the vegetable garden. Click here for a link to our crop rotation recommendations.
